A key feature of the Avant line is ease of installation with no hole drilling required, unlike other fender extensions. Not only is it simple to install in 3 minutes, it looks beautifully integrated with the styling of the new GS and is transferable to another bike without leaving disfiguring holes behind, a benefit for resale value. The Avant 12GS LC fits over the top of the stock GS fender and securely engages the tip with a unique molded-in socket. Two compression clamps grip the underside of the GS fender on both sides, drawn tight with T25 Torx Head screws. The characteristic flared wing shape widens the splash coverage area without looking wide.
The Avant 12GS LC design provides 5.5" of extra front fender length and 2" more width at its trailing end than the stock fender to effectively reduce mud, water, tar, and rock splash back onto the engine, pipes, and surrounding components. The front fender of the 2013 R1200GS is both shorter and pointier at its trailing end than the previous generation GS making the exposed painted surface of the front engine case even more vulnerable to stone damage and tar accumulation. The Avant 12GS LC helps protect the surfaces and keep them looking new longer.
Note: Skid plates that extend further forward than the original come quite close to the Avant when installed. The BMW oversize skid plate does not work with the Avant but the Touratech skid plate does.
