FEATURES AND OPERATIONS:
BMW Motorrad ConnectedRide:
-Whether using BMW ConnectedRide products or your smartphone, the ConnectedRide Navigator connects all devices and media applications in one device. This is why the navigation, telephone, and media function screens are grayed out on the TFT display of the motorcycle and these functions become clearly displayed on the ConnectedRide Navigator once an active connection between the motorcycle and Navigator is established.
-Thanks to BMW Motorrad Cloud Integration and your BMW ID, you synchronize all routes, recordings and plans between the Navigator and BMW Connected app.

Navigation:
-Waypoints: A waypoint is a “hard target“ that has to be reached e.g. a restaurant to eat or a hotel to sleep. The routing will always guide you to a waypoint until you pass it directly. After passing a waypoint, the routing guides you automatically to the next waypoint. If you don´t drive over the waypoint, the CR Nav will guide you back to the missed waypoint if its not actively skipped. If you do decide to accept the “skip waypoint” prompt, the routing will proceed towards the next waypoint. Waypoint based routing is used for reaching certain “hard targets“.
-Route points: Points are also known as shaping points, that define the shape of your route. A point is a soft target that should be passed by during the ride. In the instance you don´t pass directly over a shaping point, the routing will always guide you to the closest next shaping point without any interaction prompts required. You should use points to shape your route in more detail in order to follow a more specific route.
-Track: A track is a series of many Track points along a route. The route is drawn on the map only without instructions. If you navigate with a track, you will see the track on the map and your own position. As rider, you can decide which path you want to take to follow the route. Tracks are primarily used for following predefined journeys (e.g., from online planning tools or a journey that has been shared from another rider).
-GPX files: Import and export gpx data by using the BMW Connected app or a USB-C cable with your computer.

NEW Navigation Features with Software Version V1.0.2 and Forward:
-Additional use of waypoints and points: New features which allow for creating more flexible routes. In the Routes menu (Navigation>Start>Route) you now can distinguish between two different types of routes and tracks.
-Visualizing different types of routes and/or tracks: Most planning tools also distinguish between shaping points and track points (analog .gpx format 1.1). For the CR Nav we don´t follow this differentiation and only use “points” as a generic point. But when importing a .gpx file that contains both shaping points and track points, you can select if you want to import both variations of your planning. Within the CR Nav these two only differ by the number of points. Hence if you want to follow the planned track exactly, you should always use the one with the higher number of points. This should also be used for visualization on the map “Show on map”, as it perfectly represents your original planning.
-See Features and Operations > Navigation section above for details about Waypoints, Route Points, and Tracks as this will assist and provide a better understanding when creating routes tailored to personal preferences.

New Tracks Functionality:
-With the update V1.0.2 and forward, the concept of tracks has been introduced to the CR Nav. In contrast to routes (where the device is guiding you from one point to the next based on the defined routing criteria) tracks are used in order to follow a given route more precisely. A Track is a chain of up to 20,000 points which are connected.
-Following or Navigating a Track:
-As known from the common .gpx standard and most nav devices on the market, the tracks can be shown on the map in different colors so you can simply navigate yourself by seeing your own position and decide which way you want to take to follow the track rather than the device providing you any turn-by-turn guidance.
-It is possible to “navigate“ a track, by simply choosing the track in the routes menu and click calculate route. This enables turn-by-turn navigation also for tracks, based on the chosen routing criteria.
-Show/Remove Track on the map and navigate Track based on routing criteria:
1) Select a Route or track from the “Routes” Menu.
2) Click the “Options” Menu.
3) Select “Show on map”, this can be done for both Routes and Tracks.
4) Then all routes and tracks chosen will be displayed on the map in the selected color.
5) In the Track list, tracks can be managed on how they are pictured on the map.
6) Select Track and choose any options you applied to that Track.
-Track + Routing Example: A ride was planned for the weekend which included unpaved dirt roads but when starting the ride on Saturday morning it started raining and it is unsure if the planned unpaved roads can still be driven. So the option to show the original planned track on the map (shown in pink) and also “navigate“ this track with the avoid unpaved roads criteria can be selected. This always gives you the freedom to decide along the ride if you want to follow your planned track or follow the routing provided by the navigation.
-Highlight: With this unique feature you can directly see both the planned track and also routing suggestions based on your current position and the chosen routing criteria. The same functionalities are also available for your rides, so you can visualize all your rides on the map.

Just what I was looking for!!!

Big improvement respecto Navigator VI. I don’t like to use the cellphone as GPS on the bike, and this is the real solution. Very quick response and good interaction with the motorcycle and phone.

Review of BMW Navigation System

Let's be honest—I can be technologically challenged at times. However, the BMW navigation system is an excellent addition to the driving experience, even for someone like me. It is incredibly user-friendly, with an intuitive interface that makes it easy to input destinations and access various features without any hassle. The touch screen is responsive and relatively quick at recalculating routes. Whether you miss a turn or decide to take a detour, the system quickly adjusts and provides new directions without any significant delay.

Overall, it's a reliable and straightforward system that makes navigating a breeze, even for those who aren't tech-savvy.
