BMW USB Socket

I bought the OEM socket because...

A). The USB port faces directly down, meaning rain water cannot follow the USB cord to the pins in the USB socket. Other alternatives face up and out towards you, which is more convenient for connecting cables, but not very weather resistant.

B). The water and dust cover when the port is not in use is VERY robust. There are a number of stepped (redundant) sealing surfaces. The fitment of the dust cover is also very snug, it takes effort to push fully into place and won't vibrate out over time.

Little tough to get a wrench on the jam nut that holds it in place, I threw some blue loctite on the plastic threads to prevent it from vibrating loose, since you can't snug the but down much with plastic threads on the body of the assembly.

Socket was exact part that had gone out on a previous ride. Sierra BMW always comes through with gifts for hubby’s motorcycle. We’re in TX but will have to make a trip in person someday.

I really like the function and security of the USB connection. It was a pain getting/securing the retaining nut, but other than that perfect fit and look.

The USB socket was the perfect choice for me as it’s a genuine BMW item and infinitely more useful than a DIN/powerlet plug. Sierra shipped this item to me within a reasonable time frame and arrived intact and undamaged. I have not used it yet but installation was quick and easy. Based on my experience, I’ll be ordering from Sierra again.
