The Touratech RallyeForm skid plate for the water-cooled BMW R1200GS and GSA provides the most complete and seamless coverage for your motorcycles vulnerable engine and exhaust system. With its unique shape and integrated header protection you will be ready for anything the road or trail throws at you.

We start with a sheet of 4mm aluminum, and use precision tooling with 500,000 pounds of force to press it into just the right shape to provide armor for your engine. Cold stamping the sheet into a three-dimensional shape creates some serious benefits. First of all, the process changes the crystalline structure of the material resulting in a tougher shell for better resistance to denting.

This manufacturing process also completely eliminates the need for welds, a common location for cracks to begin. Designed with smooth radius bends, the shell is a much stronger structure than other skid plates on the market. Beyond strength, there are more benefits. With no sharp-corners to snag or get hung up on obstacles, the Touratech Rallye Form skid plate will glide over deep sand or rough terrain making a smooth experience both bike and rider. Producing skid plates this way also provides more clearance for the front tire.

Developed for Touratech’s Race Team who thoroughly tested this product while racing at the Hellas Rally where they won the big bike class and took 2nd in the overall rally, against a more than a hundred competition 450cc race bikes. After this amazing result, we started calling this product the Rallye Form skid plate.

Looks good…. But…..

The engineers who designed this skid plate obviously never installed one. A simple welded on nut plate on the rear mount/clamp (the clamp that goes on the frame cross member) would make this a 20 minute installation instead of a two hour installation. The inboard top nuts are nearly impossible to access and required me to fabricate an extension arm with several bends to hold the nuts. Not impossible, but this the sort of thing I would expect from Temu on something made by some backyard Chinese aftermarket company, not from a German manufactured item sold by Touratech.
Also, other than the impossible to access rear mount, all other mount points are to the original skid plat mounts which are mounted directly to the engine, not the frame hard points. Any hard hits to the skid plate will transmit the forces directly to the engine. Other, more robust skid plates are frame mounted.
It looks nice… I guess I just had higher expectations from a company like Touratech.

Great bag

Get yourself a Mosko Moto backcountry duffel for half price. I just used this on a 4 day trip to hold my tent and sleeping gear. It's the first stuff off the bike and the last on. Having 2 liters of water right next to me is great and the "beaver tail" is great for holding snack or layers.

It doesn't work with standard handlebars.

I have a BMW R 1300 GSA with ASA and bought these handlebar risers; honestly, the brake lines are way too short—even after removing the zip ties—and I have the standard handlebars. It’s not worth the money.

Communication is a problem.

Had two items in my order. About 3 weeks passed w/o delivery of either. I sent a text which was promptly answered saying that one of the items would ship soon. Another week passed and I was about to reach out again when I got a notice that one item had shipped. Then dead silence. I waited a couple of weeks and sent another text message regarding remaining item. No response. I called a few days later and the call was answered promptly. I was told the item was on back order. Although he expected it soon he couldn’t be more specific. He offered to return my money but if I reordered I would pay shipping again. Bottom line is I was ok in general with the time lines but the communication was terrible. Just tell me what is happening. Silence isn’t good.

I gave the order process a 5. Easy and timely. Not rating this tire but have had them before with good results.

SC Edge works great

The install is so easy in the C5. It connects to my iPhone and Garmin Zumo XT quickly. I had a Cardo Packtalk Bold with upgraded JBL speakers in my previous Nolan N 100-5 and was familiar with the voice commands. This unit sounds just as good, maybe better. The BT 5.2 is a nice upgrade, the SC Edge stays connected when I walk away from my bike. The Packtalk bold would sign off with Goodbye before shutting off, the SC Edge plays a tone and give battery level - so I find myself double checking the unit is shutoff.
